Vertex V6 Return Pump

Does anyone know if this pump can be run externally?

According to one review I found it is stated to be external capable. By the looks of it and knowing the Askoll block very well. I don't see why it wouldn't be unless Vertex isn't using the Askoll o-ring seal with the Vertex volute. If nothing else, you could get the ATB version which is very very similar and uses the same Askoll block. I know the ATB is in fact capable of external use. ATB is updating their site and the new ATB Flowstars are not listed there yet. Use their contact form if you wish to inquire on the ATB pump.

Having said that, I would ask your question about the Vertex V6 here:

Thanks Slief, I already own this pump, I planned on using it internally but was curious if it could be run externally.

How do you like the pump? I just ordered one as well to use internally as a return pump on my new tank. Seems like a solid design and seems to get decent reviews.. hopefully you've had success

Ive been trying to find the head loss info. I messaged Vertex and BRS but haven't heard back from either. Cant find any info online either. Im thinking at 6' head it should be around 1100 gph. Does that seem right?
