What is this macro algae

I've had this for a few months it's just recently exploded. I've don't a lot of looking around to see what it is but am not getting definitive info. As long as it isn't anything bad like calpura, I'm fine with it.

Not sure what it is but a foxface rabbitfish will probably take care of that for you

All signs were pointing to that...sucks. I pulled the rock today and removed as much as I could. It's stuck deep in the rock. Stringy fibers all over...I'm going to dump the rock and replace with new rubble.

After doing this I though maybe that was pretty dumb to disturb it...

What should I do? It's in my 5gallon refugium so no fish, that ain't right.

Just let the algae grow back and then harvest it again. You didn't do anything wrong. This is just another way of removing nutrients from the system.

What does it mean when algae goes sexual?

I had some of that, It was very hard to remove. It took over my overflow. sigh. What a mess. I finally had to get a competing algae to help choke it out. Good luck.

it hit puberty =P

jk it means it starts to asexually reproduce and/or starts throwing off spores that start growing elsewhere in the tank.

If you keep light on it 24/7 you won't have to worry about it going sexual. However it grows like weeds and will take over everything. I personally would remove as much as possible. Once that stuff gets a hold of your rocks and sand it's almost impossible to get rid of.

Done...I removed as much as possible...I keep the light on 24/7 too. I am a little concerned about spores...my skimmer had a really dark transparent green liquid in it...it was really weird. No signs of it in the DT though.
