Vertex Aquariums and aluminum stands ?
Was recently watching a video sent to me by Bulk Reef Supply featuring the aquascaping of their lobby tank. From my understanding its a stand and aquarium by Vertex. Has anyone else seen this video and have you been able to find any further info?
You can search : 120 Clownfish Harem Lobby Tank to see video. The stands look interesting much like the stands Red Sea have for their S series aquariums. |

I have seen that video too. Apparently the tank is a 120g rimless RR made by Vertex and the stand is also made by Vertex. They are not for sale yet to the public according to BRS.
I sent BRS a inquiry and hope to hear back soon about when they will sell the tank and stand on their site. I will probably wait until they have them, and purchase both. I agree the setup looks great, love the stand style and aluminum. |

Thanks...yeah they look nice and I really like the stand design. I want to get a rimless and maybe install a ghost overflow, but drilling a new tank myself for the first time makes me nervous since shipping up to Alaska will probably equal or exceed the cost of the tank and stand!

Prepare to take out a second mortgage on your house to buy this set up. It is very nice though.

I was watching that video last night with the wife and she loved the stand design and said I should get it for my next tank. So I checked BRS and was disappointed to find they didn't carry it. I would think a reseller would highlight items they sell in videos like this. But after doing some web searching, couldn't find the tank available anywhere. Which was doubly disappointing to see them highlighting a product we can't get at all.

I posted a question about this last week and got zero responses. That aluminum frame is a piece of cake to make from t-slot aluminum. I'd hate to see what Vertex is going to charge for the retail stand because I priced the raw materials at over $300.

Yeah if raw materials are $300, retail probably over $1000. Only aspect I did not care for was that there didn't appear to be a bottom inside the stand. There are many other traditional options including friends that have carpentry skills so I would spend saved money on what goes in the tank.

Yeah. I was kind of excited at the possibility of building my own, even with the cost of raw materials. But... no bottom in the stand creates quite a challenge. |

I'm hoping they would have the t-slot aluminum extruded for them instead of buying pre-made. We have a few different types of extruded aluminum made for us, and it's less than half the cost of buying a product off the shelf that's similar. We also have to buy a huge quantity..10,000' of one piece and 7,000' of the other. Either way it would have to cost much more than a wood stand, but looks so much neater to me.

I agree it would be easy to do the frame but what about the cabinet pieces? I'm thinking of doing a DIY version with a floor. I priced it at around $200 (I'm sure I didn't think of everything I'd need though). What sucks is I JUST set up a 75gal FOWLR (pre-reef) that would have been perfect for this. Instead I'm going to do it for an 8gal Biocube that I have on a repurposed stool base. If anyone HAS built one, could you post pictures? |

Throwing the BS flag
Quote:
I've been following BRS pretty religiously because of they're easy to understand presentation videos and recommendations. They did a two part series of staff reef tanks and...bang...I see the perfect set up. Vertex cube with stand 60 gallon. It's a retirement hobby for me so I'm fortunate I've put aside enough for the entire setup from lights to MPs to the Neptune. Finally I'm good to go...but it's not really for sale. Shame on BRS and the 6k they lost for bs bait & switch nonsense. I'll find another way direct from the company and guarantee I'll have it up & running in 60 days. Hey Brian from BRS.. HOW ABOUT A DISCLAIMER LIKE "product spotlight not yet available for retail" If your going to spend the effort and money on great marketing, you shouldn't blow your credibility in the process. I'm not a Guinea pig. Just tell your audience the company is gauging interest before going to market. We get that. Having your crew with 6 month set ups is flat out misleading. Will post a pic of the set up when it arrives. Mp |
