TDS Creep Help

Hi what do you do to aboid tds creep so that DI resin van last much longer.

You can add a tee and two valves between the RO membrane and the DI stage, so you can bypass the DI stage on startup (for the first minute). This will also give you a way to make cheaper RO when you wish (like for drinking water).

Don't run the unit for short periods. Fill a storage unit rather than turning the RO on and off to maintain a level.

I addition to what is posted above, adding a second DI canister will help also. With a single canister when you replace the resin as soon as the TDS starts to rise you have not fully exhausted the resin. If you use two canisters, as soon as the TDS begins to rise remove canister #1 and move canister #2 ito the #1 position. Replace the resin in the old #1 canister and put it into position #2. That way you get full use of the resin and don't replace it before it is done working yet you maintain 0 TDS.

So a tee and 2 valves between the RO water line and DI resin?

Yeah, for the first minute, shut the valve going to the DI stage and open the valve to discharge RO only water. Then (after a minute) open the valve going to the DI stage and shut the valve which outputs RO only water.

So it's RO stage to the tee (with two valves attached off the tee, one going to the DI stage, and the other line not connected to anything)

I use my RO/DI unit to make all our drinking water at home as well, I've gotten into the habit of filling one of my water jugs (I put a T between RO & DI stages) before making any water for the tank, all the TDS goes to the fridge

what do people do for automatic water top off systems?

for example, my RODI turns on twice a day via an electronic solenoid, and then fills my sump as needed. when i lived on the west coast, i never had an issue with tds creep (probably because the tds was so low to begin with), but now on the east coast my tds is always ridiculously high and takes several minutes of water passing out of the unit to dissipate to zero.

is the second DI chamber the way to solve this issue so that im not manually filling my sump every day?
