Refuguim placement

I'm in the process of setting up a 75 gallon reef tank. I'm running a sump underneath the tank and a external refugium.

Does it make a difference if a run an overflow and return from my refugium directly to my sump?

No difference at all. I keep a HOB refugium in my 90 gal tank and I also have a sump> I just like the fact that I can grow pods in the HOB and have a better chance to get into my main display tank.

Thanks, I heard you don't want the skimmer to intake water that comes from the refugium but I've read elsewhere that it doesn't matter.
