Parasites, Scratch on Tang Recommendations
Are there any trustworthy reef-friendly medicines for my hippo tang that looks like it may have a parasite on it, and now has scratches on its side from me trying to remove it. I cannot catch it as it goes in and out of the rock and corals. Or perhaps a trick to catch it. LOL. Thank you

It does. There are about 3. all very small. 2 on body. 1 on fin. I attempted to catch it several times now, lets just say Tang-10, me-0. The tang is very young. It has only about a 1 inch body not including the tail fin. I have SPS is the tank with it, clowns, anemone, and inverts.

hmm, hippo tangs are notorious for displaying signs of ich. They stress very easily and can get overwhelmed by the parasite.
To my knowledge there is no real reef friendly treatment for it. There are a few options that you have, first you can leave the fish alone, lower his stress level and hope he combats it on his own (some claim a garlic laced food supplement helps lower his stress). Second you can remove the fish and treat it for ich (many options for treating it) or third you can try some of these reef friendly treatments, but I haven't seen much proof that they work.

Thanks a bunch. I feel like trying to catch him is only adding to his stress. I do have a QT ready to go, but I think I will leave him be, my fear is just the other 2 clowns or corals being affected later if I don't treat it.

If you do have ich, the corals will not be bothered. The clowns on the other hand have a good chance of getting infected. There are some very good stickies in the fish disease forum about ich. Good luck
