HOTB for small tanks?

Hi guys I'm thinking about setting up a 10 or 20 gallon tank and was wondering if I could get away with just a HOTB? I only want ricordia and a ocellaris or royal gramma.

TIA for advice

edit: I was thinking about baffling off a small corner and putting the intake for the HOTB in there. That would help maintain constant total volume and do some surface skimming

absolutely.

i am running one on my 40g for mech only. well i run carbon thru it also if needed.

the key is keeping the pads changed. rememver your only using it for mech. keep all the bio on the rock etc
