What am I supposed to do here? Overflow question
I'm looking at buying this beast of a tank. It's a 300 gallon 96x30wx24 high. It's eurobraced top and bottom and is beautifully made.
It has the little acrylic overflow boxes in the corners with teeth and a single hole drilled in the back glass. The returns will go over the top, so it's not a huge issue they aren't in the corners. Better really with the length of the tank lol Do I need to drill another hole, or do a modified type of durso or something? I can't figure out how this will work at the end of the day. The seller told me he wanted the hole there because that's how he does all his other tanks. I was thinking of maybe drilling another hole and adding another drain for an emergency and making the boxes out of smoked glass with no teeth. I really want this tank if I can make this work. |

Twin durso, easy without any more drilling.
Herbie and Bean are good just more holes but a tuned Durso can be near silent.

So no more holes and just do a standard durso in both overflows?
Is it that simple? |

That simple. Might be tight plumbing so look into street elbow or trim standard fittings (can do since no pressure).

I guess I don't need an emergency in this arrangement correct?

An emergency is always a good idea, more so after the flood. Can you put another hole in? If it were my tank, this is what I would be looking at.

theres an overflow at each end with one hole per overflow. Would drilling 2 more holes make it silent?
And would you cut out the existing overflow boxes and remake them out of smoked glass? No teeth ? I only want max 3000 gph thru the sump Last edited by Reel North; 03/30/2015 at 01:49 PM. |
