What problems with coralline?
Hi all,
From thinking I'd like to have some at the beginning of the cycle, the stuff is starting to take over my LR. One rock is almost completely covered in a thick crust of purple and the others have large patches already. What problems is this going to cause me and / or what can I do about it? Thanks, Adam |

No problems except using up your calc. Most people like the look of it.

Lucky! The fact that it is growing shows that your parameters are good. I'm surprised this started at the beginning at your cycle though! If you don't want it then you may have to find something that will eat the coralline. I think I read that urchins will?
Quick question. Is is encrusted on the rock or can you brush it off?

If it gets started on your glass, it's a problem that needs constant removal. In a glass tank that's a piffling problem. In acrylic---more serious. Acrylic scratches easily. You probably have quite a lot of magnesium.

Thanks all,
It's glass and I clean the glass daily otherwise it doesn't look as sharp where the algae is growing on it. I've not dosed Mg, although I have done a few large water changes to get residual Nitrates down from the cycle. I use Brightwell Neomarine salt. Doesn't sound like a problem and I suppose it looks better than bare rock so I'll let it be! |
