waterweld epoxy and protein skimmer

I used Waterweld on my rocks recently and my protein skimmer has been going nuts with bubbles to the point it overflowed yesterday. I shut it off. I have done the research on this site to find out what other people have done and it seems people have either waited or even used olive oil.

When people wait it out, do they wait with the skimmer off? I should also mention I've only had the Skimmer on for about a week. Is there a breaking-in period and if it is, do I leave it on and let it flow back out into my sump?

Thank you!

Not just water weld. Lots of epoxies will give off chemicals that will drive your skimmer nuts. My tank is currently going through the same thing and I'm using Instant Ocean epoxy. Skimmer is off. I always do a water change and run carbon for a few days. That should clear it out.

If your skimmer has a tube to drain out skimmate, I suggest running that into a 5 gallon bucket and count a few of those as water changes. It will vastly speed up the process and overall, water changes are fairly helpful.

+1. No skimmer issues, though I typically only attach 1 or 2 corals at a time. I also have some carbon in a reactor after my gfo, reactor, which may help.

I did about a 20 gallon water change with RO/DI (220 gal tank). I am just setting the tank up so it isnt even cycled yet. The bubbles have subsided considerably as of last night but I had to turn the skimmer off as it was still overflowing, just not as quickly. I've done the adjustments and everything, it's still reacting to something. I will turn it on again tonight to see where things are with the carbon placed in the sump and the carbon reactor running.
