I've toyed with putting a float switch in my Bubble King collection cup but fortunately I never really have overflows. The only time that ever happens is if something gets into the pump which is very rare since I run filter socks. On the rare occasion that it's happened, the excess water goes right back into my sump anyway so it's never a real problem even if it does happen. Still a good idea if you feel you need that piece of mind and yours is certainly working well!
I've never had them either until I started to skim wetter and I turned the returns off to mess with something.

As the sump was leveling out, the skimmer almost overflowed. Made me think of a safeguard.

I now also have the skimmer and returns on two different battery backups, giving me about an hour to 90 minutes of power after an outage to both the skimmer and returns.

We never really have outages for more than a minute or two after a really bad storm, so should be good to go.

You can never be too prepared in this hobby! Personally, I don't sweat the power outages. I have enough volume that my tank is fine for several hours of down time. Then again, power outages are a rare thing here. That said, I do have a Honda EU1000 for emergencies and I also have an APC 1500 UPS that I keep charged and ready to go should I need to put it into action. If we had a prolonged power outage which in 18 years at this home has never happened, I'd fire up the Honda and plug in my Tunze's to the UPS.

Very rare here as well. Normally a huge lightning strike, then down for about 10 seconds then back. Happens 3-4 times a year.

Last year we had an hour power outage when a car hit a pole down the street. Was 110 outside, I was more worried about heat than anything.

Also around 650 gallons of water, hopefully the little guys would be ok for a bit without power.

I do need to get a generator though. At least just for returns and a heater if anything ever happens in the winter. (Which are mild haha)
