Orbit Marine Pro LED
So...
Here is my first post in many many years.. 3 years ago my tank crashed as a result of a poor decision and I decided to take it down. I saved almost all my components and have since bought a new home where I have an ideal situation to set up a tank and with a fish room below. My issue is that I want to get new lighting. I have 6 lamp T-5 fixture which is in working order just a tad on the worn side and with technology improving, I would like to go LED. That being said, has anyone had real experience on the orbit marine pro? The brand IMO is a good one and with the 3w LED's in the pro model it seems like the right light. I have not been in the hobby for 3 years so manufacturers have changed and newer ones are up and coming so I am looking for opinions. I would like a moderately priced LED that can sustain corals without breaking the wallet. Your input is always appreciated! Thanks!! |

They were just released yesterday. Early indications are they are very bright. The ramp timers have been around for a while, same timer as the 1st gen orbit so there are plenty of reviews on it. They pro's were on display at the last MACNA and a few shows and look great.

ugh.. as I read more and more on the lights, the consensus seems to be T5 or MH.. Now I am even more confused. I loved my T5's but energy wise they were brutal but not as bad as the MH.

I've had nothing but great success with LEDs, including the Orbit Marine LEDs. I have the older version, which is only powerful enough for LPS and softies, but the growth has been even better than I experienced with T-5s. Don't hesitate making the move to them. The Orbit Marine Pro looks like an interesting fixture too, but I haven't seen it on a tank yet.

What size tank do you have and do you keep any LPS in it? I'm thinking on downsizing to by spare 46 bow and I really like the light, just not sure if it will support my Acan, Duncan & Frogspawn. But I would hate to buy the pro if the standard orbit does just fine.

I'm still waiting for more reviews and youtube videos. The only one I've seen other than Current's own video that doesn't really show the light in action is a 28 second clip of a guys tank with no commentary and poor footage.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ql5DlmOMMgk I have the non-pro version on my 20 tall. I have LPS Frogspawn, duncan, chalice, acan, easy SPS, Montipora, pink birdsnest and softies - palythoa, zoas, and pulsing xenia. All do great. The sps is in the top half of the tank. With the new version having optics and slightly higher power, they should be able to maintain higher demand sps, albeit still at the top half of the tank. |
