Question about QT and hyposalinity

So I'm setting up a QT for the specific method of hyposalinity.

My question is more with the setup then the actual process.

I have a 10 gallon with an aquaclear HOB, heater, basic cheap LED that came with the plastic hood, some PVC pipe and fittings, Ammonia badge, airpump with a large airstone across the bottom, no LR or LS going BB as I read that is best for this procedure.

My question stems from the lack of biological filtration since there is no LR or LS. I have more then enough seachem biomatrix media in my DT(it's basically very porous rubble rock, and has been in my DT since I set it up 4 months ago), I don't need it in my DT(roughly 45pounds of LR in my DT) Can I fill up the HOB with this media for ample filtration? It still leaves me room for a carbon cartridge with floss for mechanical filtration. Also, can I reuse this media, or is it best to get rid of it after?

While it is a debatable topic, I believe you will not have much bio-filtration in a hypo environment. WC's in a 10g QT will serve you well. If your aim for hypo is disease treatment, namely ich, top offs are crucial to maintain the salinity correctly. Good luck just my 2 cents worth.

Top offs are critical to hypo - evaporation can quickly raise the salinity to the point that it isn't effective. Hypo is difficult to do properly, IME, because the window between 'therapeutic' salinity and toxic salinity is relatively small.

You will still need biological filtration. A HOB filter with a sponge that's been seeded in the DT for a few weeks will work well. If you don't have that you will need to do water change, but make sure that the water is the correct salinity!
