I am very new to all of this. As in we've only had our tank for about two weeks now. It's an Aqueon 75 gallon with crushed coral substrate, 12 lbs live rock and adding more by each paycheck 5 turbo snails, 2 damsels for now.

You've got a very nice set up!! How does your clownfish get along with your damsels? Are you planning on keeping the damsels in your tank?

I have never seen even the damsels bother the clowns or vise versa. It only chases the other smaller damsel away. I have more of an issue between the two perculas and maroon clown, as expected but there has yet to be anything other then posturing and things have actually calmed down allow lately. I rescued the tomini, maroon and blenny from an "abandoned" tank along with some corals.

Damn, looks like I just jinxed myself on the clowns getting along. Came home and found the maroon with his fins shredded. He is resting in a breeder box now.

Looking really good, especially considering the move. Do you or anyone know what the red thing is the second picture you posted?

edit: maybe it's purplish orangeish

How would you rate the performance of this skimmer with a DCT4000 pump? I was thinking of getting a EV120 and using a DCT4000. What setting is the pump on? Is the skimmer loud? How much skimmate are you getting each day?

I can't really comment on performance as its the only one I have owned, but it seems to do the job.

As far as the DCT4000, it is overkill for the EV-180, I had to remove the gate valve completely to keep up with the pump. I installed a ball valve and slightly closed it. I love the fact that I can adjust thinkness of the skimmate with the controller. It is quieter than I expected, there is a bit of air sucking noise from the air control valve. The noise of water falling from the output drowns out both pump and skimmer.
