Huge thin striped hermit crab
Picked up some chaeto and cured live rock pieces for my refugium the other day. While placing them in fuge I noticed a 2 1/2 inch she'll...looked inside and found a very large (what appears to be) thin striped hermit crab. Did some online research and many say they are reef safe....and many think they are the devil. I placed him in my 90 gallon reef tank and he literally stuffed his face with the patches of algae I have ( tank is about 6 weeks old still). However when it was time for me to leave the tank unattended I put him back in fuge.
What do you guys think? I like him....already named him Deebo bc he's such a big mofo. Think it's ok to leave in display or only under supervision? |

I'd not risk it. Usually the only "safe" ones are Blue Legs, Scarlets, Dwarf Zebra and the Electric Blue/Orange ones.

LOL and the only "safe" blue legs are the small ones. I've got more in my sump than in my tank. Murderous bastards! The scarlet legs are fine and I do like them.

I'm a firm believer in an all snail clean up crew. All crabs are murderers (I have actually owned all of them but that is my experience roughly.)

I too am the proud owner of a crab free Display. Got sick of feeding them snails.
