Reef Dynamics-out of business?

Anyone know why they went out of business? I purchased a biopellet reactor in February and I am concerned with warranty, replacement parts etc. in the future. Sent an email and I got an auto response that they will hopefully work something out in the future for parts.

It appears the merger went south and Reef Dynamics is now out of business. Considering that even the domain name is available, I would bet there is no future plans to use the name Reef Dynamics.

This sucks! Running one of their bio-pellet reactors with their pellets and really like it. Was even planning on upgrading my skimmer to one of theirs.

But it takes a heck of a lot more than that to stay in business. Particularly in Southern California and a crowded market.

I think he wanted to go to Arizona to save money on taxes It seemed that he was still building in the OC but headquartered in Arizona,

I loved my Euro-Reef skimmers that I had in the past. Even though the Euro-Reef line wasn't cheap, they weren't as expensive as the Reef Dynamics line. That may have played a part in slow business. I for one, went with a different skimmer on my latest tank because it was less than half the price as a Reef Dynamics counter part and had very good reviews. I'm happy to pay for American made products at a premium, but hopefully if Jeff can open up another company building the same kind of quality he will take a better look at being a little more competitive. Might help him stay in business longer. I have never seen a skimmer that was built like my Euro-Reef CS-8.

I was very suprised to hear Jeff tell me that in the begining, before euro reef. He and his dad were importing H&S skimmers and were distributers of the line. Then they decided to basically copy the H&S design and sell them. Thats how Euro Reef was born. I floored by that.
H&S makes amazing skimmers in Germany still today. I just wish someone would take on importing them and being US dealers.

Between when Euroreef ended and now is about 20 yrs, prices do change in that amount of time. Remember Reef Dynamics skimmers were hand made vs the competitors in a mass produced factory

We placed a big order from H&S after we met them in Germany....unfortunately they had no idea how to pack the skimmers and they came arrived in bits and pieces. We then decided to import just the impellers and skimmer pumps. The rest is history.
Their pin wheel impellers did not work because the pumps in the USA run on 110V, 60 Hz as opposed to 220V, 50 Hz in Europe. Took us a while to figure out the problem and from that pointon we had to make our own pin wheel impellers.

The skimmer market is flooded with Chinese build skimmers selling for a lot less then American made units. Thus one has to decide to only design and build items that are not available from China yet needed by reef hobbyists
That will be the intent of Nanoreefsystems (we have been building nanoskimmers with metal mesh wheel impellers). ReefDynamics LLC was allowed to use our metal mesh IP until the break up of the merger. We have now reestablished our website and will be expanding our line of products using our metal mesh impellers.

No I am not since we split Euroreef some time ago into Nanoreefsystems and Reef Dynamics.
My company Nanoreefsystems primarily concentrated on designing skimmers (using very small pumps with metal mesh wheels) for smaller aquariums for which no skimmers were available. We do plan to employ our mesh wheel technology in larger pumps wherever it makes sense.

Reef Dynamics was the old Euro Reef but made the larger skimmers and bio-pellet reactors as opposed to Nanoreefsystems who specialized in making nano skimmers for the smaller aquariums.
The old Euro Reef consisted out of both specialties that is why we split.

So if I have a large H&S wit 2 Ehim 1260 pumps, where should I get replacement impellers?
The metal washers get chewed up and damage the impeller.

Just get another type of put, the deltec pumps might fit the h& s skimmers
