Exclamation icky snot algae in all filters plus high flow areas!

My tank is 4 months old has cycled and started growing a few specks of purple and lime green corolline algae about 2 weeks ago but all of a sudden this snot booger slime algae is growing on all the high flow areas of the tank, I am feeding less and less each day but nothing it is simply overwhelming I cleaned out the sock which was full of this slime and 4 days later it's worse. I took a picture of the water when I removed the sock it just dripped. down more snot algae it was gross lol. What the hell is it. It doesn't care about light at ALL. It is in huge amounts in the sump and sock where there is no light what so ever..tank spec is
60 gallon 30 gallon sump
0 ammo 0 nitrite 2 nitrate
0 phosphate but must be wrong
All tested with salifert

I have been through the icky snot experience. I don't think it is an algae. What you have is a bacteria bloom. Search here for solutions to bacteria bloom.

The "snot" bacteria did not impact my live stock in any way. In addition to other research check Dr Tim products. Helped me but there may be other good husbandry that won't cost money. Good luck.

Good plan. Remove as much as you can and keep it off livestock. Hope someone chimes in with other recommendations in addition to Dr Tim.

I had an outbreak of this stuff when I moved my tank. Took months to really go away, just do constant water changes and suck it up siphoning, clean all your equipment when it's over as all my pumps and skimmer walls, reactors were covered in snot. It would cause my gfo to get all gunked up and not work. Huge PITA. Good luck

I had this once i began carbon dosing with no3po4x and my moms tank did the same thing when she began dosing with it as well. After a 2-3 water changes the snot/slime went away and hasn't come back and both tanks are still carbon dosing.

Wow, this happened to my tank about a week after cycling completed, it cleared up with 2 water changes.

I never thought I would find out what it was, I would love to know what caused it though.

Try using Dr Tims Waste Away, have you tried turning on/off pumps is the stuff growing in your return lines? Is it clogging your pumps?

I had a real bad run of this stuff in both of my tanks One was carbon dosing the other one not.

It doesn't matter how much or little you feed. The organism takes advantage of the fact that those high flow areas are where there is constant nutrient flowing through, so things will prosper there. You can try not feeding, but then your live stock will die.

Yes its in all my pumps i just had to take apart all my circulation pumps and my return pump plus skimmer because everything was running bad. The return pumps flow i noticed was horrible and when i opened it up the entire spindle was covered in the gunk it could barely turn. My skimmer was the same and now the skimmer i had to dial it down a lot because after it got cleaned it started over flowing like crazy. Its pulling out a huge amount of gunk too

I would turn my return pump on/off so I could net the stuff I did it so often that the fish weren't even afraid of the net anymore.

Try Dr Tims Waste Away little pricey but that is what work for me on both of my tanks.

Look on Amazon for the Dr. Tim's products. Significantly cheaper. They helped me get through my slimy bacterial bloom. I think my rock wall was the cause in my tank.

Yeah guys I'm definetly going with Dr tims waste away. This stuff keeps getting worse and worse and worse. My corals didn't open all day yesterday because they where full with stringy clear snot. I would clean it and it would still come back. As for Dr tims product do I turn off carbon reactor?
