Brand new Emperor 400 is oddly loud
I've had an Emperor 400 on my tank for a long time, and it finally stopped working so I went out and bought a brand new one.
I hooked the new one up and got it going and the thing is super loud. It sounds like the impeller sounds when it is dirty or there's a problem. Which is odd because this is a brand new unit. So anyway I opened the thing up, cleaned the impeller (but there was nothing to clean), added a bit more water to the box even though it was fine, took out and then seated and reseated the intake tube a few times, and fired it back up and it was noisy as ever. So next I restarted and restarted the thing a few times a few different ways. Still noisy. Finally I started messing with how level the box is, how the intake tube sets on the glass and in the unit, etc. I'm finding that I have to put an extreme amount of pressure downwards and to the back from directly on top of the intake tube. It's almost like the tube maybe isn't getting a snug connection with the impeller. I tried putting some foam sponge back behind in the chamber but this has the opposite effect as it effectively pushes the tube up and forward. I'm not sure how to fix this. Thoughts? |

There is a defective part. either the impeller or something. Take it back and get a new one...
