Most of us here in the houston area are on concrete slabs so the floor is not an issue.
I believe he's placing the tank on tile flooring, surrounded by wood.

Good point on electrical and that's something we didn't talk about the other day.
If you can, run a few extra circuits to this room. It's usually not expensive and I have an electrician contact I can give you that did this in my new fish room build.
Having multiple circuits not only spreads out the load but if one trips, the whole tank isn't down.

I didn't catch what is on the other side of the 14' wall. Could you do an in-wall setup with the back of the tank in the fish room? This seems like the best of both worlds; view from living room, access from fish room. You could build built-ins below and on either side (open to living room) and let the wife use them for knick-knacks, etc. That might keep her happy about the tank's size.

The tank will sit next to an exterior wall and is on a concrete slab. There is tile on the floor right now so weight won't be an issue.

I'm going ahead as planned with the 220g. I looking forward to this build. It will give me plenty of room for the fish and corals I want. Thanks for all the great input.

An LFS owner couldn't get his new tank into the basement and it stopped making progress in the dining room.

He got rid of the table and kept the tank.
