2x Eheim Jagers for 120 gallon with acrylic sump ?

Just wondering if Eheim Heaters are okay for acrylic sumps. Setting up a 120 with approximately 160-170 gallons total . Was thinking 2x 200watts ? or 2 250watts ? Never have used them, but have heard they are great.

Are you running a controller? I would not to trust the on board thermostats. I use 2 Finnex titatinum 250 watt heaters on my 120 as I keep my house on the cooler side year round. They are in an acrylic sump with no problems. I prefer titatinum over glass.

+1 check this. I have two 150 watt Jagers in my trigger sump for my 110DT. They are hooked up thru apex and work great.

I originally bought 1 300 watt not knowing how long they were and it was way too big to fit so check the size.

I believe they are 15" for the 200s and 17"-18" for the 250s . The sump that I got was used, and custom made , and it's pretty wide . Think I should go with 2 150s ? House gets anywhere between 64-75 degrees through the year . If the 150s are enough then I'll go with them

hahaha so true. I myself prefer Aqueon Pro heaters. Having said that I personally would go with 2x 250 or 300watt heaters.

Lets say you have 2 200watt heaters. Its winter time and one of your heaters fail. Do you think one 200 watt heater is going to be able to keep up with 170 gallons?. I really don't know, but thats basically just 1 watt per a gallon. I personally like to have both of my heaters capable of maintaining the proper temperature by themselves in case one fails.

On my apex I keep one heater set at 74-79 and the other at 73-79 so that the 2nd heater isn't even used unless the first heater fails (this will prolong the life of the heater that isn't being used). I also have each heater set at 80 incase the Apex were to fail which will prevent the heater from cooking the tank.

Hate to rub it in, but never owned a heater for me reef. Some thing to do with living on the west coast in San Diego I guess.

But doesn't it really make sense running two 150w heaters instead of 1 200w.

It's cheaper, plus when that single heater breaks, you'll be glad you have redundancy.

Oh I bought two of the 300 watt jägers, and they are like darth maul light sabers.

Definitely going with 2 . Was just unsure of what wattage . Like KingTriton said , if one fails, will the other maintain your heat by itself . So I was thinking 2 250s for that reason . But they are pretty long . Maybe I should go with 2 200s and call it a day . Then if the one falls and temp drops , I'll know it's broke and buy a new one ! ..... Or should I get the 300s and be safe if I have the room ?

Honestly I would be concerned with 2x 250w heaters on a 170. 300w would be the minimum for me (if room allowed). My a/c stays on 70 and my two heaters (200w & 250w) if both are turned on only raise the temp .1 - .2 every ten minutes on my 100 gallon. I plan on upgrading the 200w soon.

On my 180 I run Four 200w Jagger heaters and have considered going to 250w or 300w heaters

On really cold days they have a hard time keeping up, But I also have a basement sump

I currently have 75watts jager on my fusion 20 gallon nano. With my room temp 65F and tank temp of 81F, I have seen it struggle to keep up. I was thinking of adding another 50 Watts that I have as a spare in winter. That would make around 6 watts per gallon. Do you think that would be overkill. Oh, my tank is only 9" height for heater compartment so 2 smaller watts heater is a must.

I think everyone might be missing the point of the OPs question.
His question isn't about how many watts per gallon or redundancy. He's asking if x heater is ok for acrylic. I think the op is concerned about damage to the sump from heat.

Okay. Thanks everyone ! Will probably up the wattage to be safe . I'll go 2 300s if I have the room just to be safe . And yes I was worried about it melting the acrylic and didn't know if it was safe . I think is based on the responses . Hopefully it comes with suction cups like every other heater . That ll help out a little bit I guess .... If it were to fall down down though and be directly touching the acrylic , would that still be okay ?

Both my 300s are touching my filter socks and haven't had any issue so I can't imagine the acrylic would melt.

The heater is just warm to the touch even working. And sump usually has good flow so I dont think it would be a problem with melting.

+1

Ive had an Ebojager heater for almost 30 years. That should tell you a lot. That said I wouldn't put glass in my sump. I have 2 titanium Finnex heaters with my Apex. Rock solid and safe.
