How often should I be feeding these fish? I feed them in the morning and at night. Is that over feeding?

I feed mine once at night. Remember, even though cardinals are passive fish, they are carnivorous with big mouths and big appetites. Try feeding something meaty and let him pick a favorite or favorites and feed him that. When i feed my cardinal he has this funny way of swimming and swallows the food. they are very hardy too! My dottyback ruined my cardinals fins, now a week later after the removing of my dottyback the fins are all healed!

I feed mine mysis shrimp, and sometimes cut up scallops or regular shrimp. He has never been interested in anything else.
Mine is a chicken. I don't know if they are all like that, but if I put a new fish in there, he gets spooked. This last time, he started hosting in my long-tentacled anenome and now only comes out of it to eat. One thing that I've found that no meat eating fish seems to be able to pass on is Cyclopeeze. Everybody loves it, even the corals.

Cool thanks everyone. I think I will feed once a day. I tried frozen bloodworms and the picky guy wouldn't eat those. Put in some frozen brine shrimp and he went to town on that. Seems like he only likes frozen brine shrimp. Oh well, at least I found something he will eat.

Like others, my bangaii will only eat frozen foods. He won't touch pellets. I feed twice a day, pellets in the morning and frozen at night, but I feed very lightly both times. Since the bangaii refuses pellets, he doesn't get breakfast! I've had him for about 8 months now, and for the first 2 months he was in a QT on his own. He has refused to eat anything other than frozen since Day 1.

Banggai Cardinal won't eat
I've had a banggai cardinal for 2 months and he's eaten fine until recently, and hasn't eaten in the past 4-5 days. He's in the tank with a clown fish and they both eat thawed mysis shrimp. The water is testing normal levels. Any suggestions? He's been such a great fish and we would hate to lose him.

Do you have one Banggai or a pair? If you have a pair, take a very close look at his mouth and see if it looks different than normal. It's possible that he is holding eggs in his mouth, in which case, he won't eat for up to 30 days if he holds to term.
If in the other case, you only have on Banggai, I would try switching foods, or adding something like Garlic or Selcon to the food you are feeding. |

Thanks for the help guys. I'm totally new, had a 60% loss on my first try mostly through impatience at the wrong time. My Cardinal hung in there but wasn't eating flakes. After reading this forum I went out and got a variety of frozen and she chowed down. Thanks!
