Desperate help for Lionfish
Hi
I'm new to this forum, so hi to everyone. I have a lionfish for the last 5 months, he is beautiful and was very happy till 4 days ago he was not interested in his live food, then I noticed he has a white gap above his mouth, photo attached to show. I'm worried it may be a dislocation, can anyone confirm and if so give me some ideas what I can do so I do t loose the lionfish? Many thanks for your help |

Beautiful looking fish. I however cant see anything wrong with his mouth though. What have you been feeding him?

Here is a better picture.
You can see his small opening to his mouth, top lip and then the big white gap. Hope that makes things clearer Thanks for the help |

Ohhh ok now i see what you mean. Actually looks like the top of lip was cut all the way accross.
I would post this in the fish disease forum, you will get better responses. Im not even sure how that could have happened

I think that gap is the part that unhinge when they expand their mouth to catch prey. It looks to be locked in a partial open position.

That lion has lockjaw.
Improper diet is what causes it. You haven't happened to be feeding him frozen food have you? Specifically krill.

the easiest way to convert lions to frozen is to put glass shrimp on a feeding stick and eventually switch the food, usually they will switch over quick, hey just got to get used to the stick, i use wooden kabob sticks by the way.
