Opinions on Flow
I have a 3 month old 90 gallon tank with quite a bit of rock in it. So far everything is going great. I have 1 Gyre 150 horizontal on the upper right glass pulsing about every second at 30%. While it does appear to be moving a lot of water it seems to be just doing a counter clockwise circle in the tank. This is fine for now since all I have is rock and a few fish but once things mature I want to add some soft corals and do not want them blowing in one direction all the time.
I guess my question is, should I add more powerheads, what kind, and location? Should i change the way my gyre is currently setup or just leave it as is? I also have an Apex on the tank but it is not controlling the gyre. |

Gyre 150 is already more than enough for 90G. Play with different settings to achieve the desired flow. Try alternating forward and backward, mounting it horizontally instead of vertically, etc. Don't spend more money, unless you absolutely know you need to.
Also, there is a Gyre controller that is compatible with Apex.

That flow patterns is the definition of Gyre. If you want chaotic, yes, you will have to break it up somehow - be that alternating the flow pattern (though it will be weaker in reverse) or shooting another powerhead in on the opposing end.
