Green algae in my aquarium
My salt water aquarium has been up and running for 1.5 years now. Up until 2 months ago I've never had any green algae. There's a little coralline and brown but no green.
Is this a good or bad sign (having bright/deep green) algae appearing over the past month. |

There are several kinds of green algae. We need a picture. If its green hair algae, its usually connected to phosphate levels. Have you changed your feeding habits lately?

I have to ask what you changed right before this started.
What kind of snails or hermits any clean up crew do you have? I see your sand looks quite white with no algae on it. Also what size is your tank?

I did nothing different really. No cleanup crew, it's a 93g with a sand sifting goby that keeps the gravel nice and clean.
Otherwise no real changes in anything. A water change once a month, nitrates hover around 30-40 in this FO tank |

I'd get 6 turbo snails and 6 Mexican turbos for some variety. They will clean up your rock quickly. Once they clean it up you can give half of the snails to someone else with a problem or trade them back to your lfs for credit.

Can't really have any cleanup crew there. I have some triggers who live to nip at them until they get a good bit and rip them from their shells.

Yes, I had 2 clownfish that ended up hosting that ornament. One recently died but this little guy has now claimed this as his own.
Except of course when one of the two triggers swim in from above, then he quickly exists until they exit. |
