Marineland 60 Gallon Cube Not Reef Ready

There is a guy selling a brand new, still in package, 60 gallon cube for 250 dollars. It is not drilled and comes with stand and lid. Is this a good deal?
And would it make a pretty good aquarium? Only ever had longer tanks. Thanks!
I plan on drilling it as well.

I believe(someone correct me if I'm wrong), the marineland tanks use tempered glass on the bottom pane so the bottom cannot be drilled. It can be drilled from the sides, but voids any and all warranties.

Yeah. That's the census I have collected as well. Still does it seem like a good deal?

I had a 60 cube (2x2x2) for awhile (22 years) and really liked it. I used a dual biowheel HOB and a canister filter for filtration. VHO lighting allowed me to keep anything other than SPS, which is part of the reason I upgraded to a 120. The last year or so it was running, I switched the VHO's to a single AI Sol blue and began with a few SPS.

I think they are a great mid-sized tank, and that seems like a good price as well.

Good Luck!!!

Bill what's the story on that cool huge rock? Is it regular reef rock or something else?

I purchased a 60g rimless cube with a corner overflow from the LFS about 3 months ago... I think it was $350... something like that.

My advise would be to buy what you really want the first time. It's _far_ less expensive than buying it twice... and the glass box is not going to end up being much of the overall cost of a reef aquarium.

I very carefully selected this size tank for the location and look that I wanted. Still in the process of getting it all together, but so far I'm quite happy with it.

That started out as ~120lbs of pumice at the local landscaping company. I used several large spade bits, a hammer, and a chisel to turn it into my version of what a reef looks like. It took me a couple weeks. In the process, I destroyed all the spade bits, and my corded (pre cordless!) drill. If I can dig them up I have a few pics of "the making of".

Didja know pumice floats? When I was done carving, it was down to ~#70, so I pit it where I wanted it and filled the tank. Well, started to fill the tank. Then drained it and used a couple tubes of silicone to stick it in place!
