Back Off the Creeping GSP
It seems like it was yesterday and I could not keep GSP alive. Now I have 3 nice SPS growing in my 93 G cube. I have some GSP creeping up on the rock that has a SPS on it. Is there any way to get the GSP to back off growing up the rock. I was trying to hit it with a tooth brush to irritate it, not sure that's doing much. Any ideas? or do I need to go as drastic as cut the corner of the rock off with the SPS on it and remove the rest with the GSP on it?

GSP is pretty much invasive once established and not going to "back off."
Honestly if you want the GSP, you need to isolate it totally from everything else and be prepared to trim regularly OR totally remove it from your tank. I had a piece living in the corner of my 90 (I have to admit, the sway and movement of it is pretty nice). It was not touching any other rock, completely surrounded by sand, totally on it's own. One day while cleaning the tank, I bumped the rock and discovered that the GSP had attached itself to the tank wall and was growing on the glass quite happily. Sorry but I think drastic may be the only thing that gets its attention. |

I just tore the left side of my tank apart to remove the gsp, looks great but it can be invasive if not trimmed regulary as stated.
Putting kalk paste in the area should stop them but it should only be a temp fix.

being invasive is what drew my attention to GSP. I want it to cover my back wall. 3 months in now, it has gone from the size of a quarter to the size of a racketball and growing more and more everday on my back wall. im looking forward to a wall of "grass"

You could try smothering the mat with some epoxy. I do this all the time to keep GSP, BCP, certain Montiporas and a Leptastrea at bay.
