Cleaning Question...

Okay... so we've just started adding to the tank. Fish and shrimp have been in about 3 weeks and crab less than a week. When we added the crab we added about 20lbs of LR. Since I have noticed a bunch of these little black/grey rods on the sand bed (see pics). They seem to collect around where the crab has been. Are they crab waste or possibly things that he's pulling out of and eating (then discarding) from the LR? Finally, should I be cleaning/syphoning it out during water changes?

Thanks!
-Steve

I siphon my sand every wc. You could add some flow to blow that away. It must be crab waste. That sand looks kinda deep so you may or may not want to siphon that. My sand is only about 1-2 inches deep.
