How long can red bubble algae survive without light/flow?

I am trying an experiment in an attempt to get rid of my bubble algae plight. I have pulled the majority of them off a patch of rockwork, then using D-D Adhesive I have smeared a layer over where I pulled the bubbles, so hopefully that will stop them growing back in that spot. Im just not sure how long to leave the adhesive before pulling it off, how long can bubble algae go without light and flow?
