Algae Removal Expertise
I can't win the algae battle and need some expertise.
I have a 90 gal mixed reef tank, with 4 small fish, 12 small corals, anemone and random snails. It's been running for about a 1 1/2 years. I've tried: Phosguard New Lights Stopped feeding pellets 5% Water Changes Bacteria M Algaefix Raising Magnesium to 1800 ppm for 60 days. I'm currently doing: Every other day: 1/4 cube frozen feeding Lights Schedule: 2hr actinic - 4hr metal halides - 4 hr actinic Weekly Pull it out while siphoning into filter sock 10% Water Changes GFO Reactor / Carbon (changed monthly) Cleaning protein skimmer Changing filter sock If anyone has some other ideas, please let me know. |

Looks like the rock is still leaching phosphate. Just keep doing what you are doing and let it run its course. Could take a year or more....mine did.

The rock looks a bit.......sterile (besides the brand new looking GHA patches). Have you done something before to try to remedy the algae problem?

Some of the loose rocks at the top I've pulled and scrubbed in a bucket. Which look great afterwards but in about 2 weeks they will start to grow algae again. |

I'm having my own green algae issues in one of my tanks, but I know what does not work:
IME, sea hares and emerald crabs won't help a lick. Sea hares initially made a dent in GHA but disappeared (i.e., died) without effecting any permanent changes. Emerald crabs are touted as bubble algae eaters. But, IME, they only eat LPS polyps. Good luck, Mike |

I agree on the emerald crabs...I had some at one time they seem more interested in my corals than green algae.
