RO/DI best filter replacements?

I just picked up a used RO/DI basic system from a person off craigslist getting out of the hobby, Eventually i'll add in all the goodies liek the triple inline tds meter flush kit etc.. but for now i just need some replacement filters.

I read spectrapure is the best place to go for the RO membrane replacements?

Are their carbon and sediment filters equally better than other options? or is any of the other major brands pretty similar when it comes to carbon and sediment filters?

The system i have is a 5 stage, i assume i want a .5 or 1 micron sediment, .6 carbon, .5 carbon, and a DI.

No chloromines in my water, just chlorine, and other basic tap water items, i have a hand held tds meter inbound to check my tap, and after water until i can get the upgrades.

anything else i should do or look for?

thanks guys!

Nice that you only have chlorine to deal with!

I've found sediment filters to be pretty much the same (as long as they are graded). There can be a big variation in carbon filter capacity, even among the same "regular capacity" 5micron filters and "high capacity" 1 micron filters.

I also have a 5 stage. In order: 1 micron sediment, (2) 0.6mic carbon (KX Matrikx), membrane, DI. I haven't tried Spectrapure (good rep), but the Matrikx carbon units are good performers at a good value IMO.

where did you find the .6 micron? i was having trouble finding them on the big name websites, only the .5 and 1 micron carbon seems to be available from the big names.

i know i read buckeye said in a thread the .6 is usually good for 20,000 gallons and .5 micron carbon is only good for 6k gallons.

i have a 1 micron and a .5 in my cart, but i would rather do .6 then .5

right now in my cart i have a .5 sediment, .6 carbon .5 carbon and a spectrapure silicabuster color indicating DI.

i also need to get a new RO and restrictor since i have no idea what brand this ro/di is or what they used for ro.

Buy Spectrapure and rest well knowing you got the best, no compromise cartridges. Use use a Spectrapure RODI system and their cartrdiges. We have horrible water quality yet I get about 1000 gallons of 0 TDS water before having to replace my first DI.. This is despite my system being a 1:1 unit and despite having tap water in excess of 560TDS. Their 99% rejection membranes are the best hands down and they don't compromise on the other cartridges which reflects in their quality and longevity.

Plus one, on the Spectrapure RO/DI units and replace filters and membranes. I have tried a few RO/DI units in the past and Spectrapure is the best, great customer service to.

That was a typo, not .5 but 5 micron.

I use spectrapure for most of my cartridge needs but would also buy from buckeye. Both of them support this site and the reefers who use it.

If you use quality sediment and carbon filters you only need 1 of each. A good rule of thumb is to go with as small a pore size as you can. The sediment filter serves to protect the membrane

I have a Spectrapure Max Cap and have the following filter's

Sediment - .2 micron zetazorb
Carbon - .5 micron
membrane - Spectrapure 99% rejection membrane
1st DI - Max Cap Super DI
2nd DI - Max Cap Silica Buster Super DI

yeah my end goal is to use the .2 zeta sediment for sure, and the silica buster DI was already on my list, i just wasn't sure what carbon(s) to use.

my tap water is 220 tds out of the faucet. i was told by the utility company no chloromines, i also dont see it in the water quality report.

So are you saying use 2 di filters instead of 2 carbons?

i have 4 sections plus the ro tube to work with.

i also found out earlier my restrictor on here now says i believe 420 or 440. but i'll have to change that regardless if i get a 99% spectrapure RO so that wont matter correct?

So i have 220 tds tap water.

my best option?

1 - .2 or .5 sediment filter
2 - .5 carbon
3 - DI? one will be the silica buster super for sure
4 - DI?
RO - 99% spectrapure with their restrictor

i also plan to add the inline tds, manual flush, auto shut off, and pressure gauge next time i have an extra hundred or so bucks. since the unit i got is the basic frame and no extras.

If you're having trouble finding a high end sediment filter at a reasonable cost, we brought a new filter to the market recently:
