Big surprise...

I bought a small coral beauty about 3 weeks ago (maybe 3"). I have a mostly SPS 90 and I had a coral beauty in my reef tank a few years ago with no problems. The fish goes into the tank and disappears into the rock. Literally disappears. I never saw it after that first day. So three weeks go by and I am thinking it must have been ill and died and was eaten by the hermits/snails/whatever which was a bit strange but seemed the only explanation. I never saw a trace for three weeks and I have been spending a lot time taking care of the tank so I was sure it must have died (my first loss in this 4 month old tank).

So today I bought another (I think they are cool looking). I put it in and it goes into the tank and starts going in and out of the rock. A couple hours later, I see it outside the rock then I see another CB come out and start rubbing against it! The first one was in the tank for three weeks and I never saw it! So now I have two. But apparently they like each other (at least I hope it was affection and not aggression being displayed). The new one is out in the open most of the time and the original is still a bit reclusive but comes out often.

I've been trying to get a pic of both of them together but so far no luck.

LOL nice story

I don't think the rubbing is a sign of affection though...

Our tangs "rub" each other sometimes as well hahah

Sadly, it was aggression and not affection. The new one has been banished to a corner of the tank and never leaves. So I am going to give her away. At least she brought the original one out of its hiding place. Anyone in Seattle want a free Coral Beauty? PM me.
