Clowns mating but man someone's hungry

Hi guys.

My female clown is laying eggs but the male is just eating them. At first it seemed like he was trying to do his part and then suddenly gave up and chose to eat them instead. Is this normal? This is the first time I see them trying so I am wondering if it because he doesn't know what to do or cause he's just an sob.

My male will mouth them for water circulation and to keep them clean but he doesn't eat them. Are you sure he is actually eating the eggs?

I think I read somewhere that they will eat the eggs if they don't seem like they will survive/or of poor quality. Also heard that the first few batches usually don't do very well.

Just what I remember reading somewhere, may be complete BS, may be true.
