Question Good skim for 72 hours? Pictures

Hey everyone,

We had been running a Reef Octopus DCS300 for just over a year until I dropped it while removing it to work on a burnt out pump.

The skimmer was repaired and now runs on our frag tank.

Instead of waiting for the new pump to come from Reef Octopus and also repairing the broken acrylic, I bought a replacement Regal 300SSS.

From day one I could never get the Regal to skim like the DCS. Since my bioload isn't that high, I have to run the water level far up the neck to get any skim.

The problem with the Regal was that the skim was never consistent. It would either collect nothing or overflow. Once you'd get some good skim with a setting, a day later at the same setting it would either stop collecting or overflow. Even had to install a float in the collection cup to kill the skimmer if it got too high.

I've been speaking with Reef Octopus about the issue and they ended up sending me their new controller and power supply that now bumps the pump up from 50 watts to 70 watts and also said the pump runs more efficient.

I noticed right away that the pump was differently running stronger. I still need to run the water high up the neck, but it seems like the skim is consistent now.

I'm curious what this skim collected over 72 hours looks like to everyone.

The collection cup is fairly large and will collect around 2 gallons when full, based off my super scientific measuring method of how much of a 5 gallon bucket it fills when drained.

Anyway, here are the pictures of the last 3 days... thoughts / comments?

That's pretty good, in my opinion.

Thanks guys

Looks like it filled up too much last night.

I have been ramping up the GFO so there is some big GHA die off. Also been raising the alk, so the skimmer might be reacting to that. I dialed it down a tiny bit to see if I can keep it from filling up too fast again.
