skimmer going nuts, need help
Okay so I glued a lot of new corals in my system and I know usually the skimmer acts up for a little. I do not have a sump so I have a HOB Bh-90 on my 55 gallon tank.
I opened it up all the way, where normally it would not even get to the collection cup and now it is/will overflow within 10-20 seconds. and if I have it closed it will overflow within a couple seconds. Does anyone have any recommendations, it has been over 10 hours since I glued my corals now. I just used the instant ocean epoxy and not that much of it. I am wondering if there is anything I can do because I want my skimmer running.

I recently used putty to put some corals in my tank. I used about a 3rd of the tube. My skimmer drained about 5 gallons of water before it went back to normal - I connected the overflow hose to the skimmer cup while slowly pumping freshly mixed saltwater to compensate to the tank to compensate.

When I have a situation like that I usually just let it run back into the sump with the collection cup off for a day or 2.

Just shut it down for a day or two. Maybe a small water change. If your system is well established and stable you will be fine.

I don't attach the skimmer cup all the way. I let it sit a little diagonal so that some of the foam can run out below the cup. I get it so foam is pushing hallway up the cup tube and the rest runs out below. After a few hours to a day of doing this, I can attach the cup normally. During this time, I am still able to collect some waste in the cup.

It's a time thing, and a water change thing ,...both will help.

try raising the skimmer so that it sets in less water. If you get it high enough, it will work but you will need to discard the skimmed water from the cup frequently until the contaminants are gone.

this is a hob skimmer so I can not do anything that was mentioned above besides a water change because I obviously don't want the water just spilled all over my floor haha.
Hopefully it will be fine when I get back from work tonight to let it run longer then 30 seconds

As one poster said raise the skimmer higher. I assume you have it sitting on the tank. Do you have pvc pipe? Wedge a piece in there so the skimmer is a couple inches higher. That could help. If not do an extra water change and don't run it for a couple days.
