One issue to note about the fans.
If you put the switch in position "O" will act as automatic lights when it reaches a temperature in the screen in position "I" is always running. regards Rafael |

Here's a quick way to set sunrise/sunset on Key K3 LED:
PowerBar can only be automatically controlled by two modes on the remote control: “FADE” and “SMOOTH”. FADE will keep the moonlight on all night. SMOOTH will turn moonlight off at 7pm. Here’s how "FADE" mode controls the PBar: 5:30a.m - 6:30a.m: PBar increases light intensity from 0-100% 6:30p.m-7:30p.m: PBar decreases light intensity from 100-5% 7:30p.m--5:30a.m: PBar remains at 5% intensity acting as moon light. Here’s how "SMOOTH" mode controls the PBar: 6:00a.m-7:00a.m: PBar increases light intensity from 0-100% 6:00p.m-7:00p.m: PBar decreases light intensity from 100-0% 7:00p.m--6:00a.m: PBar is off Here’s how you set your main light: Turn on the control box. It will blink showing 20:00. You will now need to set it to reflect your current time. Press D to set Hr. Number will circulate from 0-24 Press E to set Minute. Number will circulate from 0-59 Press C to confirm your current time has been set. The hour should not blink anymore. Now you need to set time for sunrise and sunset: Key K3 has two channels for the main lights Channel 1: controls 24 leds (originally comes with 16 Whites and 8 Blues) Channel2: controls 24 leds (originally comes with 16 Blues and 8 Whites) Pressing button B will circulate through 4 different time set modes: Channel1 on, Channel1 off, Channel2 on, Channel2 off. Press B the first time and hold it for 5 seconds: hr led will blink and wait for you to set the time to turn on Channel 1. Use D and E to set Hr:Min (ex: if you set it at 10:00, Channel1 will turn on at 10am) Press B the second time: Hr led will blink and wait for you to set the time to turn off Channel1. Use D and E to set Hr:Min (ex: if you set it at 22:00, Channel1 will turn off at 10pm) Press B the third time: Hr led will blink and wait for you to set the time to turn on Channel2. Use D and E to set Hr:Min (ex: if you set it at 10:15, Channel2 will turn on at 10:15am) Press B the fourth time: Hr led will blink and wait for you to set the time to turn off Channel2. Use D and E to set Hr:Min (ex: if you set it at 22:15, Channel1 will turn off at 10:15pm) Press C to confirm your setting. You're done! If you accidentally press B the fifth time, it will go back to time set mode Channel1 on Both sunrise and sunset take 1 hr to increase or decrease light intensity to 100% or 0% Last edited by dattong; 08/26/2012 at 01:54 AM. |

Whoever owns the 165W model should replace 8 chips in the two rows in the middle with the new purple/actinic chips. I just did and the color looks amazing. I've been getting decent grow in the last two months with the original ratio. I'll esee how my SPS's response to the new purple/actinic chips. The purple looks pretty much the same as fiji purple.

key led sunrise and moonlight
Hi all,
I'm using the two of the new V2 model of the 48"key leds on my 1.60m tank and after 6 weeks of light adjustments I'm trying to program it to a more sophisticated scheme. Most of it works, however combining moonlight with auto sunrise/set is NOT possible apparently... ***? I'm discussing this with people from KEY, but communication is a bit difficult with very basic English and I'm not sure if we understand each other properly. I cannot believe that they would build in this way, and in fact I find the advertisement on the website misleading. According to their reply you have to turn the autocontroller in manual mode (so you don't get sunrise/set, and you have to dim the leds manually) but then you can set the SPS bar to moonlight and a 7,9 or 12 hour period of full power. But you have to turn the main leds of manually. If you use the sunrise mode (who wouldn't?), the SPS power bar turns completely off at the set timepoint and you don't get the 5% moonlight. I like the light from these units and I don't need fancy-pansy iphone app to control it; but this I consider a serious flaw. Or, I miss a point in the manual and their email then please enlighten me |

The powerbar is controlled independently and has nothing related to the program. You basically have 2 preset options on the remote control "FADE" and "SMOOTH" to choose from. "Fade" will set PB to turn white and increase its intensity at sunrise, then it will turn blue and decrease its intensity at sunset and after that it keeps the moonlight on all night.
"Smooth" does the same thing but it will only keep the moonlight on for a few hrs, then PB will turn off. The hrs that you have set in the program for the main ligths to turn on or off will be kept in the internal memory, so you won't lose it if you turn off the control box. This is the trick to set the PB to turn on at sunrise at the hr you want: the PB is programed to imitate sunrise/sunset basing on when you turn the control box off and on. If you turn the control box off then on at 20:00, then you press either "Fade" or "Smooth". Sunrise/sunset will take effect correspondingly at 5:30am/18:30 and 6:00am/18:00. So let say, I want the sunrise on at 9:30 on "Fade" (because I want the moonlight turned on all night) then I will turn the control box off then on at 1:00am or 23:59, then select "Fade" on the remote control. Sunset will automatically activated at 22:30. As long as your control box is on, it will follow this schedule. If you lose power, you need to turn the control box off and on again at the time I have calculated above. If it's too complicated for you to understand just do this for the two modes on the remote control: 1.FADE: turn the control box off and on then press the "Fade" button on the remote control at this time: sunrise time you want minus 9.5hrs (ex: 10am - 9.5 hr = 23:30). I will turn the control box off and on at 23:30 then press "FADE" 2. SMOOTH: turn the control box off and on then press the "Fade" button on the remote control at this time: sunrise time you want minus 10hrs (ex: 10am -10hr = 01:00am). I will turn the control box off and on at 01:00am then press "SMOOTH" The important thing is you have to set the clock of the control box to match up with real time (your wall clock) every time u turn it off and on Hope it helps Last edited by dattong; 09/30/2012 at 12:11 PM. |

Thanks for your elaborate answer, and I get what you mean but this is the case for V1 of the leds and it has changed in the new V2 version.
The box now controls three channels: 1 for the blue mains, 2 for the white mains and 3 for the SPS bar. You have to set times for all three and after the 'sundown' time for the sps bar it switches off and the remote control functions are not available. When it turn back on at sunrise, you'll have to re-engage any remote control option for the powerbar. I've now tried to cheat and set the sunrise and sundown at identical times, hoping power-on goes before power-on. The lights stay on, so they might keep 24h power and my hope is it will remember any remote control option (flash, fade or smooth) to control the length of the sps bar cycle and the moonlight. |

Today, for no apparent reason, and in the middle of a family gathering, one of the rows of LEDs on my unit started flashing like mad and has been at it for hours. No amount of well-meant advise from older relatives ("Yes, thank you for your help, ex-mother-in-law, much appreciated" Grrr!), swearing or resetting has been able to put an end to it. Anyone?

I have the same problem with flashing LEDs, I wrote in support of the KEY LED, but no one answered. How did you solved it?

It's very easy, just unscrew one end, slide off the plastic guard, take off the reflective film, unscrew the led chips, take them off using something like a thin screw driver because they're glued to the heat sink with thermal paste. Then install the new chips, just match up the color wires, yellow to yellow, white to white. Done. Make sure you test the chip to see if it works first. I used a led test fixture from rapidled. You can also use one single AA battery to test each led.

how are your experiences with these? I have the key3 nano slim that's about 74 watts will it be strong enough for good sps growth on a regular 20 gallon?
