New tank

Hi I have just started a Aqua reef 400 with sump it's just been over one week running with only live rock and I'm getting a lot of brown algae is this normal at start up or do I need to do something to control it

Unfortunately, it's normal.

Your new aquarium will go through many different algae stages as it matures. The first browns are really ugly, and right when you begin to wonder if it will ever go away, *PooF!* it's gone! Just wait it all out, and remain vigilant with your routine maintenance: Glass cleaning, manual algae removal if/when possible, etc.

Just like xxero said, it's normal. Just keep up with water changes etc. it will go away eventually. Make sure you're using quality rodi because if you're using tap water, it will create a whole new host of algae issues down the road.
