Copper banded butterfly's are notorious for being finicky and easily bullied. I was only mentioning him to show my purple tang is not a bully. If he were to pick on someone in my tank, it most certainly would be him.

Just remember you put something risky in and it dont work out you will most likely have to rip the whole tank apart to catch that fish.. Traps work sometimes but mainly seem to trap the fish you dont want to trap... If a fish is risky most likely it will be a problem. This is not a new hobby and these fish have been kept along time. Those that say they dont have a problem with a fish that is risky some eventually do. Sometimes it is a fish reaching sexual maturity or some other reason. Remember these fish can live 10 years or so.
I see too many people getting good advise but are actually looking for a excuse to do something they know they shouldn't. 6 months latter they are asking for advice on how to stop the problem.

^ very true, but also remember, every fish is different. They all have there own personalities. So in a way every fish is risky to a point. I've had fish considered to be absolute saints, turn into immediate devils as soon as they hit the water.

It wasn't directed at just you it is just every thread ends the same. If every fish is different than why ask, your mind is made up.
This is the reason you see very few experienced people people answering these questions anymore. They see tang in the topic and head the other way. There is allot of people I feel even more experienced than me in fish that no longer help people out anymore. You have a few people with a few years experience and basically parroting stuff they read in these threads anymore. Why don't more experienced people answer these post? because no one listens and do what they want anyway. They are looking for that one person that says it has worked for them. They seem to think that gives them the green light. 15 people say dont and 1 or 2 person says it worked for them so far for a year or so and they listen to that one person. Allot of times those one or two end up with the same problem down the road.

I put a juvi chevron in my 120. He's really awesome. He is pretty small and he picks at my rocks and swims through all my rockscape. I highly suggest a chevron, my personal favorite.

Prior to the purple tang, my lemon peel aka chocolate aka mimic tang lived with a hippo tang for 8 years with no problems. I agree with your statements. I'm not trying to give advice. I'm just sharing examples with past/present experience. My all time favorite fish that you could look into adding is a pseudochromis fridmani aka purple dotty back. Super vibrant color. Haven't had one give me problems yet with bullying.

The problem is the chevron gets big real big. They don't grow as fast as sailfins but it is going to look silly eventually. I have seen a 8 inch sailfin in a 90 once and it barely could turn around with the rock work,
He actually does not have a 120 that is 48x24x24 and actually is a 110 but is slightly more in actual volume. . It basically is the same dimensions as a 75 or 90 gallon just taller. Height does not add as much in my opinion as length and width but it does add some. I have the same problem with my 90. I want another tang but it is hard to do. I think a 120 48x24x24 could easily hold two maybe even three if done right with he right tangs.

I believe in my tank, the key to real success is having the right rockwork in order for both the tangs to swim around, not in just a manner that makes them go hack and forth freely but once aggression starts they can hide, get away easily, etc. also, having the right lovestock with them will play a role so aggression towards the tank is well dostributed not just with the tangs. I have some time to think of rockwork/livestock. But as of right now, a purple tang and a kole is my neet decision at the momment. I'll have to carefully choose my rockwork, making it tall and have alpt of caves and brodges for them to swim through.

Well OP I would recommend one tang for your tank. Take it from me, someone who has a 90 gallon tank. I added a kole and yellow tang only a week apart. The yellow was bullying the Coral Beauty angelfish in the tank. Then the Kole came and started to bully the yellow tang. It was non stop aggression in my tank. Had to get rid of both of them. What I'm saying is tangs are tricky in 4 foot tanks. They are also mean SOB's. I have a lot of swimming room in my tank, not much liverock. But still there was chaos.
I would suggest you stick with one tang and one that's known to be peaceful on average. Yellow tangs are peaceful on average unless you get the odd bully like I did (Most likely cause it was already quite big). Get it small and it can work. Also feed it a lot. I use this tactic with my fish presently and it works to curb aggression. If you REALLY want to push it, you can also add a Tomini tang. I haven't heard of aggression issues with them. Kole's can be mean. Besides my experience, Kole tangs have been known to go after diamond goby's and algae eaters in general. Anything it sees as competition. |

Yeah well, I'm trying to balance out the aggression. I'll have to pick livestock that can manage themselves with a bunch of aggression around. But as of right now, a purple tang and a kole is what I'm thinking. Putting them together and having a bunch of live rock to hide and swim around in.

In that size tank you might, if you want the brilliant colors, take a look at the damsel classes. They come in brilliant blues, particularly, some stripes, and if you confine yourself to one of a kind and do not put chromis with regular damsels (they hate each other), they are manageable, and hardy.

6 by 7? Almost any tang, probably not unicorns, sailfins, or a few others, how tall is it?
