Lighting questions/suggestions
looking for lights on my other 40breeder frag tank.
looking for something thats inexpensive, and not really looking into the high end lights I have an odyssea on my OTHER 40 gallon and it seems to be doing great, but before buying another Odyssea t5 lighting, are there others that are fairly cheap (this Odyssea t5 is $85) I also want the colors to pop (with Odyssea it seems to be just "alright") I was thinking of a d120 chinese box but will the blues make my colors pop compared to the odyssey t5? also, how many would i need for a 40 breeder? i've also seen the eve 3w LED on aquatraders.com any reviews? Any other fixtures? it need to be about 36" |

For about the same price you can get a MarsAqua led fixture. It doesn't have the power supply that other "165" watt Chinese boxes have. Mars uses 102 watts for 55 leds and I think all the others use 120 watts for 55 leds. That makes some difference in how well the light will penetrate the water. Over a 40 breeder used as a frag tank, that shouldn't be an issue. One fixture hung 18" to 24" off the water (which gives you room to work in the tank) should cover 36" OK. If you have to be closer, you may need 2 or I think they sell a 32" version, but obviously, it costs more.
Since you can dial up the blue channel and dim down the white channel, you can make any corals you have that do fluoresce really pop. But remember, not all corals fluoresce so under more blue spectrum, they don't look better.
