How do you handle mail order corals? particularly in the winter?

I have seen some pretty cool frags that I want to try as I get more comfortable with the stability of my tank, but paused because sitting on my porch in 30 degree weather is probably not that great of a deal.

So for those that order do you usually do it on a day you can be home to accept delivery?

I'm waiting until warmer weather. Obviously most reputable places will ship and require a signature, so I'll be home waiting to collect the package. But I'd like to avoid more extreme temperatures for the time being. Buying from LFS until spring.

Yes. The vendors I deal with I just buy the amount for free shipping and ad $15 more dollars for Saturday delivery. They will pack it up with warmers to make sure they are ok. Some vendors will let you know that they will not ship the order when the conditions are worst, fearing delivery may not occur.

yeah in the total scheme Saturday delivery is worth it.

I am in a serious case of the uglies for my tank anyway.

I'm not home to accept the package weekdays, so I have it delivered to my work. As a matter of fact I just received a mushroom today that I bought off ebay. This is the third coral I purchased from this vendor in the last month. The packaging from this vendor is outstanding and I never have to worry.
You can also have the package held at the facility for pick up if you're not going to be home.

I usually have them hold at the facility. I can usually pick up by 9 and be at work before noon so it is only a half day off.
