Stocking list

Well I have only been on this forum for a couple weeks and I can already tell that there are hundreds if not thousands of threads just like this one asking for help with advice on stocking. But I also need help so here is mine.

First the tank (although it is not fully set up yet)
150 gallon reef tank with a 40b sump
Reef octopus classic 202-s skimmer
Sicce 4.0 (950 gph) return pump
Maxspect gyre Xf150
No reactor yet but will have carbon implemented
100 lbs live rock
2 inch deep black Hawaiian sand
(2) cobalt acutherm 300w heaters
Plan on using instant ocean reef crystals but open to suggestions

20 gallon long quarantine tank

Ok now on to the list:
(1) red stripe dwarf angel
(1) flameback dwarf angel
(1) bicolor dwarf angel
(1) coral beauty dwarf angel
(1) flame dwarf angel
(1) singapore angel
(1) yellow long nose butterfly
(1) bicolor foxface
(2) clownfish
(1) lieutenant tang
(1) blonde Naso tang
(1) powder brown tang
(1) powder blue tang
(1) yellow tang
(1) blue tang

And Eventually a few sand sifting gobies

Tell me any suggestions, opinions, and additions you may have

Multiple angels in a tank as small as yours is tricky, but I would limit it to two and be sure they are from different genera.

(1) red stripe dwarf angel

(1) singapore angel
(1) yellow long nose butterfly: Can be a difficult fish to get to feed
(1) bicolor foxface

Two tangs ONLY:
A. lieutenant tang: No
B. blonde Naso tang: No
C. powder brown tang: One ONLY of C or D or F although D is very difficult to keep
D. powder blue tang
E. yellow tang: Okay
F. blue tang: (Atlantic not the Pacific)

I dont mean to sound disrespectful or belittling when I ask the following so please dont take it that way.

Have you done any research at all? That many fish in that size of a tank would be like shoving yourself and 5 other people in a phone booth.

www.liveaquaria.com has a fairly accurate, albeit not the end all description of most if not all of the size requirements for the fish you want.

A really BAD rule of thumb is an inch of fish per gallon of water. This is NOT generally used in the hobby but is a good example of how not to overstock. What I mean by this is think about the ADULT size of the fish you are going to purchase (also on liveaquaria) and when you hit 150 inches of fish you have reached your limit. Let me state again that this is just to give you an idea how not to overstock your tank.

thegrun was spot on with the tangs. I also think you are going to run into aggression issues with the number of dwarf angels you want to put in there. I think you should pick 3 of the angels at the MOST (keeping in mind that these should be introduced to the tank at the same time). Take thegruns advice with the tangs. Drop the longnose if you want a lush reef. How about a foxface? Maybe a basslet or dottyback or one of each. Then get a goby as you said and sit back and marvel at your masterpiece.

I am setting up similar tank. I think 1 of the tangs you mentioned is all you could handle if you want to keep them for a few years. Some of the fish on your list could grow to be the size of dinner plate. I am thinking of a regal angel as show piece fish with several smaller fish to go with. I am thinking of adding variety of wrasse species. You can get alot of colour by adding single specimens of wrasses. Blennies, royal gama, pair of clowns could go with one of the larger tangs or sugeon fish

All of those Tangs you have listed require a bigger tank, so rethink your Tang list. No more than 3 Dwarf Angels, with only 100lbs of rock, probably not going to be enough for 3for grazing and hiding. Plus you have some of the most aggressive angels of all the dwarfs. It's your tank, but you will have problems down the road costing you more money than the initial stage of getting started and probably produce a lot stress leading to ich or some other illness. I agree with what all the others have said. I learned the hard way about overstocking....when I was new...and I didn't listen too advice from more experienced people. Luckily I didn't have any disease out breaks...but the agression totally disrupted my whole tank. I would pick 2 or 3 dwarf angels....and one tang....and go for some colorful wrasses....I have 3 wrasses and love them..they all get along...and add plenty of color and movement. Just my 2 cents! 8 )

Oh yea and a Foxface....I have a mag foxface anfd hebis one of my fav fish...he begs for food...so I feed him by hand...he loves New Life Spectrum pellets...
