Black rings left on glass/vinyl by Jebao/Jecod powerhead

After moving my powerhead, I noticed it's left a black ring where the rubber bracket was pressed against the glass. I can't seem to scrape them off the inside, or rub them off the outside (not sure which side they're actually on, or even both).

Anyone else have/heard of this?

In the first pic, you can make out the ring against the nem in the background. It's hard to get a photo of it on the glass, but it's pretty clear when you see it for real.

Have you ever cleaned them with vinegar or any other type of cleaning method?

Do not use any acid based cleaners such as vinegar to clean those rubber pads, this also goes for even very diluted muriatic acid. I have the same thing happening and was informed this was the cause. You can order replacement pads fairly easily from Fish Street.

use a mr clean magic eraser - but not the 'extra power' ones. No chemicals, just the melamine foam.

That's exactly why I asked if you used vinegar... I have seen people that clean their powerheads with it and then the pads leave black marks afterwards. If you use vinegar, do not dunk the entire Powerhead and keep the rubber pad out of it...

Thanks guys, I will have a look for one of those 'mr clean magic erasers'. I live in the UK, and have to say I've not heard of those, but knowing it's melamine foam should make it easy to find something.

I've not cleaned the powerhead rubber bracket before, and whilst I have cleaned the glass on the side of the tank with vinegar, I have never cleaned the back wall (inside or outside) with vinegar.

Got the melamine foam pads today. It removed the mark on the outside of the side glass with ease! Thanks so much for the tip @ezarasurfr

I tried on the vinyl on the back of the tank, but it doesn't seem to be doing much. I'll put some more time into it later and see it there's any change.

The original pads (without added detergent/cleaners) can also be used inside the tank.
