Bulkhead size questions

I am getting custom pico build it's capacity will be around 1 gallon and I am also getting it drilled I was going to go 1/2 for both the drain and return. Now my question is does this sound good or should I go with a bigger size for the drain. I am trying to keep the bulkhead as small as I can
