Reef Dynamics ins180 pump replacement

I need to replace the pump on a Reef Dynamics ins180. For the cost to replace the EcoPlus 1056 I think I can buy a better quality pump (i.e. Bubble Blaster).

However, I am concerned about upsetting the skimmer's balance, or over/under powering the skimmer.

Anyone have experience with this?

There are 2 versions on that skimmer. The 180 and 180E. The 180e has the Eheim 1260. Maybe consider that as a replacement.

Ins 180

Did you ever figure this out? I have a Reef Dynamic INS180. I have replaced the rotor in the pump twice because of excessive vibration and noise. It went bad again, and this time when I went order a new one ($80 a pop), I find out that Reef Dynamics went out of business. I have to either decide to try another pump with could be a crap shoot, or just go with another brand of skimmer..

I ended up purchasing a new pump from Reef Dynamics. You can buy the same pump without the Reef Dynamics modifications. The volute should be interchangeable, but the impeller will be different.

I didn't realize RD went out of business.

You can use ASM parts for at least the old pumps, before they went to the Eco plus pumps.

Pumps that work on a RD180 tunze 9420

ASM pumps

Sicce Syncra 1000 skimmer pump

Jeff should consider opening a company just for providing service/parts for Euroreef and Reef Dynamics skimmers. There is an awful lot out there and I'd hate for someone to feel forced to junk these quality made skimmers just because they have a part fail.

Cannot speak for Jeff but I know he is working to establish the ability to provide service/parts ASAP.

I have a vertex in 80 in 100 pump and the impeller has swollen, would the ASM replacement impellers for the sedra 3500 fit in this pump. not looking to buy a new pump, pump still works great but having a hard time finding an impeller that will fit the pump. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

ER/RD used the same pump as ASM as long as they are the Sedra models.

Having the same problem here with my Reef dynamic Eco pumps, need new impellers. Anyone know if an ASM impeller would work in the Eco 1056 pump?

^^^^^I would venture a guess and say no, ASM is still using Sedra pumps.
