Aerator question

want to add a glass bottle to my reef and introduce an encrusting coral once it's acclimated some. Don't want to worry about stagnant water in the bottle so thinking about drilling a1/4" hole in the bottom of the bottle and running an air line and aerator to it, keeping water flow inside as well. Any negatives to an aerator? Air stone or no air stone? Any info would help. Currently have a 40b w sump etc.

I'm not sure if there is a problem with an aerator but no airdstone as I have hard that parts of it can break off and get stuck in the fishes gills or something similar
