AI Prime Help
Hi Al,
I've had my tank set up for a few months now. I have a 40b with a couple corals (2 LPS and 2 softies at the moment) and 2 clownfish. Everything is running great, and I've been mostly happy with my 2 AI Primes (my corals are looking great), except I've been having a horrible time being able to connect the app consistently. It seems to work about 25% of the time that I try to sign on. I have rest my lights multiple times, the app multiple times, tried it on a phone, computer, and iPad, contacted the company repeatedly, and I still can't get them to work. Has anyone else had difficulty like this? I have also had trouble getting them to keep the parent/child connection. I'm about ready to send them back and get new lights. What has other people's experience been with the Primes? Any advice? If I do end up sending them back, any suggestions for LED lights for a 40b that aren't bank breaking? Thanks! Sarah |

It probably has to do with the wifi built into the lights. The range kinda sucks. Go into the light app and see what the wifi signal is reporting as. If it's less than 2 bars, that's probably the issue. My Hydra HDs (Same setup as Primes) did the exact same thing and I had to put a wifi range extender closer to the tank to get a better signal. Now, I can get to them consistently and the child doesn't drop off.

I have also had a lot of trouble with the connection on the app. It seems really buggy. I had several questions out to the support (via email) and the response was almost identical to the instructions in the manual for how to connect to the wifi network. Basically, the app has problems and they don't know how to fix it. I like the lights and controllability enough that I am willing to live with it. However, from what I read about the features and controls, the non-HD Hydras seemed like much better lights. From the non-HD to the HD you lost a bunch of features and only gained the hyper drive feature (not super useful) and the app controllability (good idea, but doesn't work well).

The non-HD Hydras using the director were a much better setup, IMO. The cloud/lightning configuration was better as well. Having the integrated control/wi-fi is a great idea, but the way the Primes and new HDs are setup is more difficult to work with overall.
