Which skimmer do I get?

I just picked up a couple of 40 gallon breeder tanks from petco during their dollar per gallon sale. My plan is to use one as a frag tank and the other as a refugium. My plan is to build a ladder or step structure out of PVC and egg rate. It will start from front to back. I'll be placing live rock underneath the structure while the frags sit on top of the egg rate. The 2nd breeder will house a skimmer in the 1st chamber along with the drain. The 2nd and largest chamber will have cheato and the 3rd is for the return. I want the fuge area to be the biggest section so what skimmer and size should I use? I may also place a couple of fish in the frag tank for pest control purposes. I've considered the reef octopus classic 110 space saver and the aquamaxx ConeS CO-1 but the aquamaxx may be overkill. What do you think? Please give me your input.

With such a very small bioload and a large refugium, both the CO-1 and the Reef Octopus 110 will be overkill as you noted. Both may not work very well simply because there is not very much organics/protein in the water.

Instead, we would recommend taking a look at the AquaMaxx WS-1 instead.
