Nylon Mesh Socks

Howdy all,

Just wanted to know if anyone has tried these to replace felt filter socks? They seem like the would be much easier to clean.

http://www.amazon.com/MESH-Filter-So...h+filter+socks

Thanks.

I just ordered this item two days ago. I'm away from home until Wed, I'll post after I try them. Sounds like 200 micron felt and 200 micron mesh are not the same.

I have mesh socks. Mine are 800 and 400. That lets a lot of detritus through. I think 200 would be perfect. Mine I can clean in just a few seconds by rubbing them against themselves under warm water.

My experience with them is that they don't collect nearly as much 'stuff' out of the water. My felt socks get clogged up and overflow in 3 or 4 days. Mesh socks with the same size holes never seem to clog and never have as much 'stuff' in them.

Thanks for the input all. I used felt socks a few years back and they were just too hard to keep clean. I don't really want to filter out all of the smaller particles anyway, as I think it could be detrimental to the filter feeders in the system. If the mesh socks are as easy to clean up as I have heard, that would be good even ground as far as I am concerned.

You will find it is much easier to clean them then the felt ones. I always find that the felt ones seem to filter much finer than what they are rated for.

I accidentally ordered these instead of felt and I have noticed they do not trap much and will be looking to reorder some felt ones.

Felt traps more and are pretty much impossible to fully clean, so with each cleaning they will fill up quicker and quicker. Nylon traps less, but plenty for my needs, easier to clean and last longer....No brainer to me!

I like felt filter socks and I have pairs that I used for 14 to 15 months. When I take them off I run water over them for 15 minutes each side. Then I sock them in water and a little bleach for 2 days then they wash clean. Hang them to dry for at least 3 to 4 days and rinse in water again before using.

I think the soaking in bleach is what keeps them clean. I tried washing them in the machine and it doesn't come out the same.

I washed mine with a cap of bleach with some fish towels. Washed again..only water. Put in dryer two cycles. Air out for a week. They get pretty clean. You have to keep your eye on the felt socks.

Damn I just rinse my felt socks every few days with a garden hose and back into the sump it goes. You guys do a lot more for them. I wonder if I should...
