Upgrading HOB Skimmer

Hi All

I am thinking of replacing my 11 year old AquaC Remora HOB with something a little more... updated. I was thinking of a Reef Octopus or something similar. Any thoughts? I currently have a 60 cube with no sump so HOB is unfortunately a must. I also may upgrade to a 90 at some point.

I highly recommend the Tunze skimmers that go in the tank if you have the space. They tend to be quieter and very efficient. Just something to think about if you haven't already. I believe the model for you would be the 9004. You can always email Roger @ Tunze directly and get his feedback! Customer service is top notch as well! Good luck!

I used an eshopps hob 75 for a 30 gal worked great, I pulled the pump and put it on the body of in sump 100 for my 90 when I upgraded. They make one for 100 also, I think the eshopps are great and a good price. Tunze's are not even close in performance, i've used them also.

as Tassy said, go for the Reef Octopus HB90 I replaced my Remora S Aqua C because it was making lots of noise and it was heating the water of my 20 gallon reef tank so yes the Reef Octopus HB90 is like 300 times much better than the Remora S Aqua C, it does better (darker skimming), makes less noise, pump outside the tank so heat is not absorbed by your tank, after power failure just close the hose for a few seconds and it will almost immediately skimm again, the Remora S Aqua C you have to wait like 6 hours or more to resume after power failure, and the list goes, get the Reef Octopus HB90.

Thanks everyone! Is the BH90 a better bet than the Classic 1000?

The HB-90 has a better design because is conical as most in sump skimmers but I never used a Classic 1000 to tell you exactly how better it is compared with the HB90.

I debated and went with Reef Octopus BH1000 for my 75. $10 more than the classic, but rated for 100 gallons. Works great and very quiet. No regrets.
