What's best

Not completely new to the hobby but not an old veteran either. Always learning something new in this Hobby. I have a 55 gallon that I tore down yesterday that was fresh water I want to put live rock and fish No reef I have a 110 gallon reef tank already this is more like going to be a Predator Tank the problem is I have no room for a sump what would be the best kind of filtration for this tank? Canister, HOB, add a protein skimmer don't added protein skimmer? Im used to running a sump.

If you have a predator tank, usually the feeding will raise the phosphates. I would look to get a hang on back protein skimmer, or see if you can get a sump? Canisters can work, but not many people like them for salt. Provide a little more info so we can help! stocking ideas, lighting, etc.

+1
A sump is especially useful in a predator tank as most predator fish are very messy eaters. Also, a 55 is on the small side for a predator tank. You will mostly be looking into frogs, scorpions, anglers, etc.

Not having a sump is fine, only you'll probably have to either stir up or vacuum your substrate on a regular basis. Basically just treat the tank the same way you would if it was full of some big bulky Cichlids, only there's salt involved. The rock will be your primary biological filter, but if you want to add a HOB filter like an Aquaclear 70 that would be fine too. It will most likely just be used for both chemical and mechanical filtration only though. As far as a protein skimmer goes it's definitely a great tool to have, but being that this is basically just a FOWLR tank it's not really necessary. You can keep your parameters well within limits as long as your willing to do a little work. GL.

And if you want to keep your phosphates down to limit algae, you can always purchase a media reactor that hangs on the aquarium and run some GFO with it.
