Sump suggestions?
I will do some more digging because im sure there is endless threads that you guys have had on here but I was wondering if i could get some suggestions on something
Few months ago, i started a 75g freshwater tank and bought my supplies for a freshwater. Then after i got started but before i added anything, i decided to take the plunge into SW. After a month and a half i got it somewhat set up but now wanting to go in the direction of a sump to add on. From what research ive done so far, its the way to go. What im planning is to add a lifereef (read up and it seems for HOB overflows this is a very good reliable one?) overflow. A LFS bear me had a 20g sump i bought used (i will attach a pic) and going to go from there. My next step is asking about skimmer (ive heard the octo skimmers are great). Now that being said i dont want to rush in and shortcut stuff and be in a bad way in the future, but i am still on a budget. So looking for suggestions on this process as in what to add first (just get the sump in and add a skimmer and worry about rest later like reactors ect?). In other words this is my first salt tank, so any suggestions are welcome and much appreciated Other background info - 75g tank, 100 lb of live rock with 1" of live sand. Fluval 406 canister filter (keep in mind i bought this set up for a cichlid, i want this filter out asap). Tank is completely cycled and right now there is 2 clowns, a blue tangs in it. In the very near future it will be a reef tank when i can afford the kessil LED lighting i want (which is fine, that will give the tank time to establish more anyways before i toss anything else in). Tank levels are good right now as far as the usual stuff goes So anyways, thank a ton in advance for any tidbits you can toss my way |

If your somewhat handy you can make a sump much cheaper than buying one. For a 75g I think I would look at turning a 40 breeder into a sump. The layout would be somewhat determined by what you want to do with the sump. For example just extra water volume and a place for equipment or would you like to incorporate a refugium into it as well. Good luck

Attached a picture of the sump. I came onto it for 60 bucks, so not too bad. Theres plenty of room to work with it and it fits under the cabinet perfect with a little room to spare for the skimmer on top of it
